I bought the Evercade version a few months ago, really good game, it definitely feels like a proper retail game!

Greed and arguing, and myself not being there making the arguing parties have a Lance Russell version of a meeting of the minds, are all reasons why the Sonic franchise is on the skids. Had the Archie, Fleetway, and IDW universes been allowed to continue, and combined with the lore of the video games, then we could legitimately have a decent Sonic game. Imagine Sega buying BioWare, or working with them, to make a sequel to the Sonic RPG that was on the Nintendo DS, but also having SatAM/Archie/Fleetway/IDW characters in the franchise...we could have a really good RPG franchise that Sega would be nuts to pass on, while Nintendo has, what, their inferior RPGs, but no Super Mario RPG 2? (I like the remake of that game, don't get me wrong, but that franchise needs to be deeper, and a playable Luigi, Daisy, Rosalina, Paulina, Donkey Kong, Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, and Nabbit all need to join the cast from the previous game, but that is a whole other subject for a whole other time). I mean, just look what happened with the Freedom Planet games...they were such good Sonic fan games that they became its own franchise that arguably did better than most modern Sonic games. However, since Sega is ruled by argumentative and selfish morons, it will most likely not happen until lots of money is thrown around, and the egotists are fired from the company.

Well, if you think that this is confusing, as well as bad, enough, then I must disclose that there is a rare Japanese version of the PS2 that is ALSO called the PSX as well.

There's something about consoles that just lends them well to the "generation" classification that you don't get with PCs. With consoles, you have a few radical changes that are rarely backwards-compatible with the manufacturer's previous offering, and completely incompatible with those from anyone else, and with whole new software libraries to match. With PC hardware, you get a heap of incremental, and most importantly, backwards-compatible upgrades, and everyone is trying to keep compatibility with existing software. Trying to make a clean break is met with a dismal failure, as happened with the Itanium back around the turn of the century (so dismal, it was nicknamed the "Itanic"). Proprietary stuff in general gets little support either, and when something proves sufficiently useful to get a standard, what little support for the proprietary implementations there was dries up in short order. 3D accelerated graphics is a good example. There are a few dozen games from the 1990s that supported proprietary 3D accelerators, but by around 2000, support for anything other then OpenGL or DirectX was a rarity.

I'm genuinely confused about where you're getting a lot of this information. The 32X was not made to ease developers into learning the Saturn. It was originally pitched as a Saturn alternative for the North American market, because SOA didn't have faith in the Saturn's hardware specs and believed that they could instead use the Genesis' existing user base to make their next generation move. They successfully convinced SOJ, who lost faith in the leadership of their American counterpart due to the 32X's massive failure, and as a result of finding out about the excess inventory costing the company a ton of money. So the 32X was less a Japanese mandate and more the last time they trusted Kalinske's leadership for the American branch. Also, cartridge-based tech was more expensive. CDs were cheaper. So again, I'm really not sure where this info came from.

On the playstation version when you lose and go back to character select screen, the wrestler that beat you will have their theme playing. Thats the only time ive heard their music 9:21

Ok buddy slow your roll.... K... Mortal Kombat for game boy is trash, I'll give you that. Now... Mortal Kombat 2 for game boy is actually fun and plays much better than the first one. Yes the roster is limited blah blah blah, but it plays better and is more fun and you should have made that clear. The other portable Gameboy mortal Kombats are crap, so I can see your point of skipping those. 🙂

Great video. Something missing from this video were the unlockables. I need "Gorilla" and "Chunk the Wolf" so I can style! Sprite for both of them are different on 32x/Jaguar vs Saturn/PS1.

I'm stunned that you didn't mention the crouching punch on the gameplay aspect. The Genesis version doesn't have it - it replaces down + low punch with the uppercut.

I've been working on a wiki site for over a year covering Nintendo's Famicom and one aspect I pondered about when documenting the system itself was "wait why DO we even use a generation system for video games?" and the moment you mentioned it was due to Wikipedia editors in the mid-2000s I now understand why the generation system is flawed. It wasn't designed to account for the weird edge cases nor its actual history but rather how powerful particular hardware is and nothing more. What about handhelds? Computer games? Where do arcade games fit into this? What about systems that released years later in other regions? It's because of these questions that I am not confident in classifying video game systems under a specific generation. I've noticed within the past several years that Wikipedia editors have made some strange decisions with how they document video games, their poor documentation of the Famicom and their unwillingness to do anything about it is what resulted me in founding my own wiki site. I think if we want to see things chance, we need to start abandoning the generation system for video games or at least heavily rework it so it makes a lot more sense. I'm doing my part with completely discouraging a generation system from ever being mentioned on my wiki site.

The extra peripherals for the Saturn being recycled into the Dreamcast was a smart move. Sega did phuq up when they chose a Nintendo style D pad over their own superior D pad.

I kind of liked Surgical Strike on the Sega CD. The problem was I didn't have a proper Sega CD, I had a Pioneer LaserActive with the Sega LD pak. And this game kept getting stuck inside the disc tray. Any time I'd pop it in I'd have to go in with needle nose pliers to rescue the disc that'd get stuck inside the mechanism. Why hasn't Limited Run Games brought this game back to systems like the PS4? I have the PS4 version of Corpse Killer and even have the remastered unreleased Atari Jaguar CD game American Hero. I wouldn't mind an updated version of Surgical Strike.

I have to say, the SNES version deserves more credit. I don’t know if it is the “best” home version, but it did not deserve the criticism given here. It is far superior to the Genesis version.

The visual priority looks kind of screwed up in the first Battle Mania - the color choices make it really difficult to distinguish between sprites, playfield and background, and to make matters worse, the backgrounds seem to scroll at arbitrary speeds. I'm sure I could get used to it if I'd play it for a while, but on first glance the game is kinda hard to make sense of. It could really use one of those palette hacks to make sprites pop.

I'm neutral about Pat and watching this video's accusations about him were pretty damn weak and petty. The most petty attack was his having sponsors on his videos. I'll give you that sponsoring Raid is a big oof but all youtube creators that can garner enough attention for a sponsor take it if it isn't some atrocious product. Also the remarks about the Diablo Immortal & the fans reactions is a good point of him being a petty bitch but other then that, this video was weak sauce. If you guys were in a MMA fight and this was your gameplan to win, IMO, you lost the fight. Bring harder evidence of Pat being a petty bitch. This ain't it chief😢

I'm just glad that T-MEK at least made it to a console, even if it was the 32X. Also, fun fact about WWF RAW; the 32X version had a bonus wrestler; Kwang, who was later known as Savio Vega. It was an odd choice to use Kwang, as Kwang was exclusively used as a jobber (technically a "jobber to the stars", but let's be realistic) that often was featured as a pre-show wrestler at WWF pay-per-views before his repackage.

I found a fix. At least for Golden Axe 2. When you cut the power of the Genesis/Mega Drive, hold down the MODE button on the 6 button controller. And turn on console again. You can now use the controller normally, works like a charm.
